Company Turns To Sport To Keep Employees And Business, In Shape

Al Nabooda Automobiles drives fitness programme, challenges other UAE firms to follow suit

Dubai, UAE, 19 January, 2016:  One of the UAE’s most sports-minded companies has challenged others across the Emirates to match its drive to keep employees fit and healthy whilst having fun and enjoying activities with fellow colleagues.

More than 140 employees at Al Nabooda Automobiles are currently training hard for their part in the Dubai Marathon, while dozens of others are keeping trim playing company cricket and football, and preparing for a big charity cycling event.

It’s all part of a programme, ‘Fit For Fun’, which the sole distributor of Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen in Dubai and the Northern Emirates wants to set an example to other businesses.

“We care about the well-being of our employees because they are our greatest assets and make us the company that we are,” said Mr K. Rajaram, CEO of Al Nabooda Automobiles.

“At the same time, fit employees have more energy and stay focused on their job. They also have more self-confidence and make better leaders.

“We have a lot of sporting activity going on and this is something we want to develop. We’d also like to see more companies do the same, and help to put UAE business generally in a healthier condition.”

Al Nabooda Automobiles management were pleasantly surprised when more than 140 staff signed up for the 2016 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon taking place on 22 January. They are now taking part in company training sessions each Wednesday at Dubai Autodrome in readiness for the event’s 10km corporate road race.

In mid-January, a trial 10K run will be led by Emirati sprinter, Omar Juma Bilal Al Salfa, a gold medallist at the 2009 Asian Championships, who will be on hand to offer advice and training tips to the Fit For Fun team members.

The Al Nabooda Automobiles cricket tournament started the year off well, with eight teams taking part in the Fit For Fun final on 1 January.

On 12 February, Al Nabooda Automobiles will take part in the BeWell Cycle Tour UAE. This is a charity event designed to fight against obesity in the UAE and for a healthier lifestyle. ANA is a platinum sponsor for the event and the company is paying all entry fees for employees and their families to enforce the importance of being active and healthy.

Employees from all departments, including the service centres and workshops, signed up for the event and are currently training on a number of cycling tracks throughout Dubai.  There are plans to grow the team to more than 60 riders.

Last but not least, the company has just held trials to select a team to enter the Copa Corporate football competition, billed as the most lucrative event of its kind in the Arab world and taking place from 25 March to 1 May.
