28 March 2014 – Al Nabooda Racing has successfully defended its Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East team championship title for the second year in a row following a tense weekend finale at Bahrain International Circuit at the weekend. The Dubai-based duo of Karim Al Azhari and Clemens Schmid headed into rounds 11-12 of the 2013-14 series with a 22 point buffer over the Saudi Falcons, while Dubai compatriots Saeed Al Mehairi and Hasher Al Maktoum of Sky Dive Dubai Falcons were a further 10 points adrift in third place. It meant an all-out power battle at the top of the team championship table was about to follow, with a maximum of 48 team points potentially up for grabs in each of the last two rounds. The class and consistency of Schmid and Al Azhari, who between them have won the last eight Porsche GT3 Cup rounds staged at the Bahrain circuit, was evident as the pair combined skilfully under pressure to take the title out of reach. Schmid finished second in the Round 11, and backed that up with a dominant victory in the final round – his seventh win of the season – while Al Azhari’s fifth in Round 11 and fourth in Round 12 gave Al Nabooda Racing a combined 84 points for the weekend, and 426 points in total, 65 points ahead of the second placed Saudi Falcons. “It was a tightly fought team championship right throughout the series, but it was the overall consistency from Clemens and Karim that was the difference for us in successfully defending our title for the second year running,” said Vijay Rao, Team Manager of Al Nabooda Racing. “Clemens won seven of the 12 rounds this season, while Karim finished in the top five regularly, giving us valuable team points. It was always our objective above all else to win the team title again and I’m very proud of the guys for their commitment.” “There were a few ups and downs, as with any racing campaign, but we are happy with the end result and look forward to the next season, where we can build on our team dominance and create an Al Nabooda Racing legacy in the Porsche GT3 Cup series.” Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East 2013-14, team championship   1.
